Kuwait Diving Team released on Sunday two giant sea turtles into the sea at Bnaider area after being rescued and lifted from the Subbiyah power generating plant.
In the ninth case of its type, the diving team rescued the trapped turtles, one aged 40-50 and the other 80-90, and subjected them to medical treatment for two weeks before releasing them back into sea, head of the scientific committee of the team Mohammad Al-Kharafi told reporters.
The team hoisted the turtles without any resistance due to their deteriorating health condition and they were rushed to the marine sciences center for medical treatment and care, he added.
On his part, professor of the marine sciences at Kuwait University Dr. Salem Al-Muhanna, who supervised the medical treatment provided for the turtles, said that they were green sea turtles which lived for a very long time and their nature was different from wild turtles.
Sea turtles are unable to withdraw their heads into their shells when subjected to danger like wild turtles.
Al-Muhanna said it was important to tag the turtles to enable the scientist to track their immigration patterns in the sea. - Kuna
