The world celebrates the International Volunteer Day (IVD) every year on Dec 5
, where people are privileged to provide free services to charitable organizations and the less fortunate. Mozah Al-Jenai, a trainer at the Education Ministry's childhood and motherhood center, said that the sociologists have found that individuals who volunteer to help others enjoy a more positive status of mental health, compared to those who do not tend to the needs of others. Al-Jenai affirmed the importance of training youths and children to care for others, especially the disabled and old people, adding that this would set them on the right track. Children, by nature, are more understanding to obligations towards neighbors, society and others in general, she said, therefore they are mentally prepared to help and tend to the needs of others. The childhood and motherhood center instructs children on simple duties such as keeping their neighborhood clean, planting seeds in public parks, raising charity for the poor, cleaning the beaches, donating books to establish a public library, helping the misfortunate and sick people, and participating in literary activities, she added.--- Kuwait Times
