Director of Media department and official Spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior Colonel Mohammed Hashem Al-Sabr urged citizens and expatriates whose vehicles insurance has expired to renew it as soon as possible to avoid being held legally accountable. In a press statement, Al-Sabr revealed that there are nearly 240,000 vehicles with already expired insurance roam the streets, urging car owners to quickly renew the insurance for their safety and others. He added that violators will bear the full responsibility in the event of any traffic accident, and as such constitutes danger for road users. He said there are a number of vehicle owners do not want to renew their vehicles insurance because their cars lack durability and security conditions that must be fulfilled at the time of renewal of a driver's license. Al-Sabr reiterated that the General Administration of Traffic would remind owners of violating vehicles, and if they do not respond, there will be a final warning and then their transactions will be suspended until they renew their car insurance. He added that stopping the transactions may adversely affect owners of these vehicles and disrupt their interests, pointing out that Article (35) of the Traffic Act applies imprisonment for not more than 15 days and a fine of not more than 25 dinars, or either of the two fines for any person driving a vehicle without a valid insurance document, in addition to calculating a single point on his or her driving record.
