The State of Kuwait is an independent emirate, which shares its borders with Saudi Arabia in the south and Iraq in the north as well as west. The name Kuwait means a fortress built near water. The state is a constitutional monarchy and has a parliamentary form of governance. Kuwait City is the capital of the nation. The country faced forced annexation in 1990, when it was invaded and annexed by the bordering nation of Iraq. It led to a seven month long period of annexation and the country finally got independence, after a direct military action was carried out by United States-led forces.
Although the country is primarily an oil based economy, and still continues to derive a major portion of its revenue through oil export, but in the recent times, the country has also expanded in other segments as well. Tourism is one of the areas, in which the nation has shown rapid advancement. The country carries a unique cosmopolitan culture, which is a result of a large influx of immigrants to the country. As it is, tourism in the region is managed primarily by two leading agencies, i.e. Tourist Enterprises Company and Kuwait Tourism Services Company. One of the major attractions of the country is that of the number of historical monument The Kuwait towers, which embed this amazing country. Built in 1979 these three towers have a dual function as both entertainment facilities and water reservoirs. The largest tower has two spheres, the upper is a revolving observation deck with cafeteria and the lower sphere has 3 restaurants in the top part and a one million gallon water reservoir in the bottom. The middle sized tower has another one million gallon water reservoir in the sphere and lastly the thin tower has 96 concealed spotlights which illuminate the other two towers and the surrounding area. The Liberation Tower of Kuwait contains a revolving restaurant and observation platform (in the first disc-shaped pod; now closed to the public for security reasons), and also houses radio and other telecommunications offices. The structure stands at 372 meters high (1,220 ft) at its pinnacle. The roof of the second pod on the tower is 308 meters high (1,010 ft). Other popular destinations of this place include Bayt Al-Bader and the Sadu House. Apart from that, the Green Island and Failaka Island are also major tourist destinations.
The place is also home to a number of museums, which put to display glimpses into the rich cultural heritage of this country.
