The Ministry of Health (MoH) has referred many advertising agencies for investigation due to alleged violations of international regulations and law
number 38/2002 in Kuwait, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting Assistant Undersecretary for Medicine Affairs Dr Omar Al-Sayed Omar. Confirming the ministry will punish those proven to have violated the law in accordance with the conditions specified by the World Health Organization (WHO), Omar stressed “we have intensified our efforts to curb medical deception, especially in beauty salons which sell beauty products at exorbitant prices and encourage their clients to undergo several treatments to earn higher profits.” He added the ministry has not authorized the sale of such products. Omar said the ministry has coordinated with its information counterpart to look into advertisements regarding beauty treatments and cosmetics. He explained a joint committee consisting of members from both ministries has evaluated the advertisements to determine if they are authorized by the ministry; hence, the decision to refer a number of advertising agencies for investigation. Meanwhile, the MoH is expected to appoint an undersecretary for the Secretariat-General soon, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting sources. Sources confirmed the Cabinet and Civil Service Commission (CSC) approved the new position few days ago. Sources said the secretariat will be in charge of the administrative affairs at the ministry like the overseas treatment and health insurance. Sources added the strong candidates for the new post include Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs Dr Yousef Al-Nisf and Assistant Undersecretary for Medical Service Affairs Dr Qais Al-Duwairi. - Arab Times
