Minister of Health Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer said on Sunday that breast cancer is a worldwide disease that has drawn attention by all medical, surgical and diagnostic specialities.
Sayer added in an address delivered on the occasion of opening the 2nd conference on breast diseases and surgery that breast malignant and benign diseases in Kuwait began to afflict women of relatively young age, pointing out that 80 percent of the tumors that women suffer from are benign. He said that this conference aims at highlighting the benign breast tumors and their cancerous pathogenesis, drawing attention to the current surgical methods and future of the critical surgeries in taking advantage of the best remedies available and setting up bases and systems for the treatment of breast disease patients. Sayer asserted that treating breast cancer needs a specialist medical team consisting of tumors surgeons, CT technicians, histologists and geneticists, expressing hope on the availability of a veteran and scientifically qualified team to treat patients until they finally recover. On her part, head of the conference Dr. Mervat Al-Saleh expressed her hope on upgrading the level of health services as per treating breast diseases and activating all medical specialities needed for an optimal care of this category of patients. Further, Al-Saleh hoped for setting up means of scientific communications along with best centres specialized in treating cancer diseases in order to provide comprehensive treatment methods for these diseases. She also pointed out that breast cancer cases in Kuwait range between seven and eight. The three-day conference is held under the patronage of minister of health and includes lectures and documentaries on some surgeries conducted abroad with the participation of 14 visiting doctors from various countries including Australia, France, the UK, Italy, Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. - Kuna
