KUWAIT, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- A Kuwaiti brain and cosmetic surgeries consultant has conducted a successful cosmetic surgery on a fractured skull of a girl who had been in a car crash.
Dr. Hassan Khaja, a neurosurgeon in Ibn Sina Hospital, said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) after the surgery at a private hospital that the girl was suffering from skull fracture and bleeding in the brain. He said the surgery was conducted in two phases; the first was to remove the fractured bone, stop the bleeding and close the wound without placing any material which may cause direct pressure on the brain in order to relieve the pressure of swelling resulting from the brain injury, severe concussion or bleeding associated with skull fracture. He added that the second stage came four months after the patient became conscious and was a plastic surgery of the head by growing new bone from the (acrylic) material as such material is known for its easy composition, hardness and its durability of external pressure and bruises that can occur in the future. Khaja said that the era of development and modern medical technology has enabled doctors to put an end to the suffering of patients with congenital malformations of the skull and spine, stressing that Kuwait is among the advanced countries in the field of medical technology. - Kuna
