KUWAIT CITY, April 20: The General Department for Immigration at the Ministry of Interior stressed the necessity of making housemaids undergo health checkups every time their residence is renewed
and after they return back from their travel abroad, reports Al-Rai daily. A reliable source said “as per the Ministry of Health’s request, a directive has been issued making it mandatory for Indian and Sri Lankan housemaids to undergo health checkups every time they travel abroad and come back, except when they travel with the sponsor. “Also, African housemaids will be given residence only for one year and if the residence is renewed, the maid should be made to undergo a health checkup, even if she didn’t travel abroad. This is to protect Kuwaiti families from diseases like AIDS and hepatitis,” noted the source. Nearly 23,000 children in the age group of 1-7 years were vaccinated on Sunday, the first day of national vaccination campaign against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Head of the Epidemic Prevention Unit in the Ministry of Health (MoH) Dr Musaab Al-Saleh told Al-Seyassah daily. These included 16,000 Kuwaiti children and 7,000 expatriate and Bedoun children, he added. “It is a promising beginning and very comforting, especially since the attendance is usually less during the initial days of such campaigns. And we expect the number to increase in the next few days,” noted Al-Saleh. MoH launched a nationwide campaign against measles, mumps and rubella and called on parents of children in the 1-7 years age group to take their children to vaccination centers in their area between 5 -10 pm. The campaign will continue until April 29. - Arab Times
