KUWAIT, April 24 (KUNA) -- Health Undersecretary Dr. Ibrahim Al-Abdulhadi signed the 'Kuwait Hemophilia Management Protocol', put forth by Kuwait Hemophilia Society
, at a large event celebrating the World Hemophilia Day Saturday evening. "It is an honor for me to receive these recommendations made by Kuwait Hemophilia Society, and I convey the pledge of Health Minister Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer that these recommendations will be adopted and implemented," he said after signing the document. The protocol is the first national protocol for the management of any disease in Kuwait, and includes guidelines for the management of cases with this hereditary bleeding disorder, as well as establishing a specialized center for hemophilia care, compiling a registry of the names of the patients, offering prophylaxis treatment, and training specialists on ways to deal with hemophilia cases. Meanwhile, Supervisor of Medical Services at the Blood Bank Dr. Rana Al-Abdulrazzaq gave a welcoming speech in which she said that Kuwait Hemophilia Society had much reason for hope and optimism with the signing of this protocol, which had earned the support of the minister. She noted that Kuwait was celebrating the World Hemophilia Day for the very first time, and that the signing of the national protocol was yet another reason for celebration on this night. "The national protocol has been launched thanks to the efforts of the members of the society, and the many doctors, specialists and volunteers who worked hard with us and gave us their support," she said. She described the protocol as "the first step" towards the attainment of the rights of hemophiliacs, as it would give patients comprehensive care in all hospitals and clinics. In a recorded video, the World Federation of Hemophilia's CEO and Executive Director Claudia Black and Deputy Director and Regional Program Manager Dr. Assad Haffar wished the organization and the people present all the best on World Hemophilia Day. They thank all the patients, doctors, specialists, volunteers and many others involved in the field for standing "united" together to achieve treatment for all. This year's World Hemophilia Day is being held under the slogan 'The Many Faces of Bleeding Disorders - United to Achieve Treatment for All'. The event saw the honoring of the sponsors and the volunteers. Former health undersecretary and the founder of the Blood Bank Abdulaziz Al-Bisheer, and Samira Al-Bader were also honored on this occasion, for being the first to introduce treatment for hemophiliacs. A very moving short film showing the painful aspects of a hemophiliac child's life and the challenges he faced, following which children distributed candles to the attendee and asked them to all light "candles of hope."
