KUWAIT, Aug 10 (KUNA) -- A visiting Canadian medical team has carried out five heart surgical operations in Kuwait, a Kuwaiti medical source said Tuesday.
As per an agreement that was hammered out between the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health and Canada's McGill University in May, the Canadian team, which consists of 16 consultants specializing in various heart treatment areas, has conducted five major heart surgeries, including four for children, Kuwait Chest Diseases Hospital Director Dr. Abbas Ramadan told KUNA. The Kuwaiti-Canadian medical agreement is mainly intended to set out a five-year strategy purposed to take care of heart patients at the Chest Diseases Hospital, and to develop human resources in the field of heart, blood vessels, education and research, Ramadan said. The deal also provides for training leading administrative, medical and surgical staff at the Kuwaiti clinic, he added. He went on to say that highly qualified technical teams from McGill University are to visit Kuwait on a periodical basis to provide medical and technical advice to patients. During a visit to Canada in January, Kuwaiti Minister of Health Hilal Al-Sayer signed a memo of understanding with the Canadian university in the field of heart and blood vessels. A relevant agreement was inked between both sides in Kuwait in May. - Kuna
