KUWAIT, Aug 16 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Health announced the death of a child and the dispatch of seven others along with five women to Adan Hospital after inhaling a dangerous substance.
Some 10 ambulances were sent to the area after receiving calls that the victims were affected with dizziness, vomiting and breathing difficulty, the ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Affairs Dr. Khaled Al-Sahlawy told KUNA.
For his part, Health Director of Al-Ahmadi Governorate, Fahad Al-Fodari said that the affected, of one family including three housemaids, had inhaled a poisonous chemical substance used to cure a dermatological disease on the head.
Dr. Al-Sahlawy explained that people who inhale poisonous substances and insect repellants, are prone to many complications such as nausea, diorrhea, low blood pressure and irregular breathing.
He also noted that children are most vulnerable to these symptoms, as a result of the small size of their internal organs.
The children affected are aged in between the ages of seven months and six years, with the women from 38 to 52 years old, he said, expressing his sincere condolences to the family of the deceased child.
Those affected are currently in a stable medical condition and are shortly to be released from hospital, Al-Fodari noted. - Kuna
