KUWAIT, June 21 (KUNA) -- More than 80 percent of Asthma patients cannot control disease, an awareness campaign conducted by the Enforcement Department in the Health ministry in cooperation with Al-Rashid Allergy Center and Glaxo Company, targeting Asthma in various parts of the country, said on Tuesday.
The extensive campaign which was conducted last month, provided various services, including mobile treatment center, medical consultation, and re-evaluation to ensure comprehensive control treatment of the disease, the Director of the Department Abeer Al-Baho told KUNA.
Al-Baho added that most cases which were not successful in controlling the disease failed due to misuse of the medical mechanism or the patient did not have proper preventive treatment due to lack of awareness on the disease.
The official noted that more than 60 percent of patients did not conduct lung examination prior to treatment and more than 80 percent of patients were using traditional treatments.
Al-Baho noted that the campaign aimed at correcting misunderstanding about asthma and minimize the number of cases in the country.
The total number of patients who used the mobile emergency stations reached 600, among them 34 kids, 12 years, while the total cost to direct treatment of Asthma has reached in total KD 63 million, Al-Baho added. - Kuna
