An Indian patient, recovering at the Infectious Diseases Hospital after being treated for meningitis, says that the good care he received at Farwaniya Hospital was key in helping him get through his crisis.

Samine Massa, 23, said that he came to Kuwait two months ago after he was recruited by a cleaning company to work at a camp on the border with Saudi Arabia.

He had been living in Farwaniya where he shares an apartment with five other residents, he said while still in his bed at the Infectious Disease Hospital where he was moved to on Saturday.

None of his roommates have been diagnosed with the disease, he said.

The patient explained to Al-Qabas through an Indian translator that he headed to Farwaniya polyclinic with a high fever, unbearable headache, and general body aches.

He said his condition has improved significantly and his headaches are relatively mild compared to what he felt when he was first diagnosed.

Al-Qabas also spoke with the mother of a 4-months-old baby, who was transferred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital for recovery following treatment at the Farwaniya Hospital for meningitis. The woman explained that the condition of her child is stable as he no longer has a high fever.

Dr. Jamaal Al-Duaij, Director of the Infectious Diseases Hospital, said that a third case is expected to be transferred to the facility, pending results of a test to reveal whether the patient is suffering from kidney failure or not.

A crowd of citizens grew frustrated at Abdullah Al-Mubarak polyclinic when they learned that meningitis vaccinations are not available, Al-Rai daily reported. Most citizens had escorted their children to be vaccinated out of concern that they might be infected in school.
