Kuwait backs global fight against fatal diseases |

Assistant Undersecretary of Kuwait's Ministry of Health for Public Health Affairs Dr. Youssef Al-Nesf said Tuesday
his country contributed to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Speaking to KUNA after his meeting with visiting Beatrice Makar, an official of the fund, the senior official said the fund plays a key role in saving lives in more than 140 countries of the world. "The fund pursues its fight against the three fatal diseases through up to 500 awareness and medication programs," Al-Nesf pointed out. "Senior officials of the fund are scheduled to visit Kuwait in December to meet Minister of Health Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer and express gratitude for Kuwait's donations to the fund," he disclosed. During her stay here Makar will meet senior officials of the ministries of health and foreign affairs as well as Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to discuss ways to enhance cooperation. The State of Kuwait has donated up to USD two million to the fund so far. The fund, an international financing institution, invests the world's money to save lives. To date, it has committed USD 15.6 billion to support large-scale prevention, treatment and care programs against these diseases. Up to 60 million people benefited from its programs in 140 countries around the globe including 17 countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. - Kuna
