Assistant Undersecretary for Civil Medical Services at the Health Ministry Dr. Rashed Al-Reshoud said
on Sunday that the minstry will establish an advanced center for head injuries, and injuries caused by car accidents, at Jaber Al-Ahmad hospital. In a speech delivered at the inaugration of the the third American-Kuwaiti Brain and Nerves' Surgery Summit, on behalf of Health Minister Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer, Al-Reshoud assured the ministry's keenness to follow up on the enormous development in the brain and nerves sector, in addition, hosting neurosurgeons from abroad to develop and modernize the medical service in the country. He added that Ministry of Health has been seeking for over four decades for developing neurosurgery, starting with the establishment of a unit attached to the Department of General Surgery at Al-Sabah Hospital in order to create an integrated partition equipped with the latest equipment. It is also keen on using the help of the best technical staff. Furthermore, Al-Reshoud stressed the importance of holding such conferences, which display the latest scientific developments, adding that hosting the specialists, and experts bring more scientific and practical experience to doctors in Kuwait. On his part, Dr. Yousef Al-Awadhi, the Head of neurology department in Ibn Sina Hospital said that the conference, includes senior doctors, known in the field of neurosurgery, surgical perspectives of the brain and nerves as well as consultants in cardiovascular surgery and congenital brain hemorrhage. Al-Awadhi noted that the three main axes in the conference are the diseases of blood vessels in the brain, benign and malignant tumors in the spinal cord, and laparoscopic surgery in the brain. In addition, Kuwait has a group of the best doctors in the Gulf region, specilaizing in nerves and brain surgeries, and is keen on hosting scientific conferences and welcoming international consultants to help develop health services in Kuwait. The proportion of successes in the brain surgeries in Kuwait is parallel to world numbers, and neurosurgery is of the best medical departments, where a total of 1,300 rare and complex operations are conducted per year.
