PARIS, March 10 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Minister of Electricity and Water Bader Al-Shuraiaan said here Wednesday his country is interested in drawing upon the experience of developing and developed countries in peaceful nuclear energy.
Speaking to KUNA before leaving here where he attended an international conference on peaceful usage of nuclear energy, which wound up on Tuesday, he said Kuwait seeks to get acquainted with necessary steps for international commitments and treaties bearing on peaceful nuclear usage, and to share relevant information with some developed nations.
In January 2010, Kuwait and France initialed a cooperative deal for developing nuclear energy use for peaceful purposes. The deal encourages industrial companies to use nuclear energy that does not require the usage of enriched uranium by 20 percent or more.
The Kuwaiti minister said the conference, which attracted 700 senior officials from around the world, aimed at promoting peaceful nuclear usage and developing nuclear energy applications in farming, biology and industrial medicine.
During the two-day conference, the participants thrashed out a spectrum of issues pertinent to peaceful energy usage and how to promote and stimulate multilateral cooperation to help peaceful nuclear-seeking countries, he added.
They also discussed nuclear energy and mixed energy and its role in sustainable development and responsible development of nuclear energy security and safety, he said.
During his stay in Paris, the Kuwaiti minister held talks and meetings with several French nuclear energy officials. - Kuna
