KUWAIT, June 8 (KUNA) -- Ministers ministers of communications of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states probed here on Tuesday lowering of tariffs of phone calls among their countries.
Speaking to reporters after the 19th session of the ministerial committee on post, and information and communication technology (ICT), Kuwaiti Minister of Communications and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Mohammad Al-Busairi said the aim of today's meeting was to facilitate communication among the citizens of the GCC countries.
"Phone call tariff is the top priority for the GCC countries at present," he affirmed, noting that technicians were working out regulatory measures to improve the service and serve the economic interests of citizens.
"The ministerial committee discussed also the GCC nominations for leading posts at international organizations such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)," the minister said.
"There are a range of major communication projects in the GCC region such as 'the Gulf Express,' a new super mail service," Al-Busairi added.
The Gulf Express (or Gulf EX) is a joint service among the GCC countries for providing parcel delivery on the next day to any country in the region at highly competitive rates.
The ITU is a United Nations agency specialized in handling ICT issues and a global focal point for governments and the private sector in developing networks and services. - Kuna
