KUWAIT, June 12 (KUNA) -- Director General of the Information Center of Kuwait's Ministry of Education Hanaa' Al-Sharrah said Saturday her ministry adopted an ambitious plan to introduce state-of-the-art technologies to schools of different educational stages nationwide.
"The plan, part of the comprehensive strategy for educational modernization sponsored by Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Moudhi Al-Humoud, aims to raise a generation able to be self-educated and cope up with the global scientific developments," Al-Sharrah told reporters here. "The backbone of the plan is to promote interactive electronic learning methods and build the capacity of teachers while bringing into full play the creative talents of students," she revealed. "The higher committee on application of electronic learning worked out the strategy for educational modernization which was approved by the council of the ministry's undersecretaries in 2008. "Based on this strategy, a ministerial decree was issued on September 17, 2008, to set up a supervisory panel for e-education. "The panel, chaired by Undersecretary Tamadher Al-Sedirawi, developed standards for the projects of e-education and procedures of supervision," Al-Sharrah pointed out. "The e-education projects are being implemented gradually over three years starting with the high schools, the middle schools, the elementary schools, and ending with the kindergartens," she disclosed. "The program aims to create education-friendly atmospheres employing the applications of the latest information and telecommunication technologies (ICT) in education," Al-Sharrah explained. Elaborating on the merits of e-education, she said it helps create an interactive environment, parallel to the traditional education, thus enabling students to surmount the boundaries of space and time during the learning process. "It also enables students to interact with teachers more effectively and polish their individual skills," Al-Sharrah went on to say. "The ministry is carrying out key projects to improve the ICT infrastructure such as the advanced data center and Kuwait Gateway. "The center, one of the world's latest such centers, is the largest in the Middle East region," she said, citing the ratings by global ITC companies. "It links all schools to the ministry via an optical fiber network in collaboration with the Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) and the Ministry of Communication," she said. Al-Sharrah extolled Minister of Communication and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Mohammad Al-Busairi and CAIT's Director General Ali Al-Sharida for this support to her ministry. - Kuna
