The Ministry of Communications has started taking the necessary steps to reduce Internet fees in the country, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting Undersecretary Abdulmohsen Al-Mazeedi.
Al-Mazeedi also called for allowing new companies to enter the market to boost competition for the benefit of the consumers. He said there are plans to establish an authority in charge of the communications and Internet sectors. He added details of the proposed authority are currently being discussed in the Parliament. According to the undersecretary, the establishment of the authority will be followed by the formation of two companies - one for regulating and supervising the transportation sector and another to oversee the postal sector. He said the postal services will be governed by a strict commercial system, in cooperation with the private sector. - Arabtimes
