According to Nikkei business daily, commercial users will see a range of organic electroluminescent (OEL) monitors being launched this month by Sony. The company plans to price the monitors almost 70 per cent below the existing models.
The current price of a Sony 63.5-cm (25-inch) OEL is about 2.3 million yen, but a similar dimension monitor of the new range will be priced at about 600,000 yen, almost same as the LCD monitors used by television studios.
The new range of OEL monitors are superior to LCD monitors as they use organic compounds that emit light, thus displaying sharper images. However, Nikkei said that the picture quality will be inferior to existing OEL monitors.
According to Sony's expectations, the new line should be in demand by broadcasters and the medical sector. - efytimes
