Top commerce official mulls with Mircosoft boosting IPRs in Kuwait

KUWAIT, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- Minister of Commerce and Industry Ahmad Al-Haroun discussed here Tuesday with the delegates of the Global Microsoft Corporation for Software the ways of promoting the Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) , particularly what is related to the company's products sold in Kuwait.
Manager of the IPRs directorate in the ministry of Commerce and Industry Sheikha Rasha Al-Sabah said in a press statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the minister's meeting with the company's delegates in the presence of the U.S. embassy's representatives discussed the most uphill obstacles facing both of the ministry and the company in the field of the intellectual piracy.
Sheikha Rasha pointed out that the company's representatives lauded the efforts exerted by the ministry and its contribution to solving many outstanding problems between the global company on one side and a number of state and non-governmental bodies on the other side.
She also pointed out that minister Haroun asserted that the ministry is fully committed to the global and local laws of the IPRs and does its best to put them into effect.
The Microsoft's delegates also extoled the Kuwait's efforts in fighting the intellectual piracy and promoting the IPRs, making clear that the ministry is going to harness all its potentials for boosting the Kuwait's world-wide good reputation in the field of the IPRs and fighting intellectual piracy, she said.
Finally, Sheikha Rasha said that the company's delegates presented some studies corroborating the correlationship between combating intellectual piracy and a thriving software industry, pointing out that the more the piracy is fought in any country, the more the software business is flourishing, a matter which makes the ministry exerts further efforts in order to reach this end. - Kuna
