KUWAIT, Oct 3 (KUNA) -- Organizers of Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Informatics award are gearing up for in the coming few days to mark the bronze jubilee
of the contest launch for the 10th consecutive year. The contest aims to attract the most distinctive designers of websites in the State of Kuwait and the Arab world as a whole. Further, the contest is considered the most prominent of its kind at the local and Arab levels as its annual ceremony is sponsored and attended by H.H. the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who honors the winners of the KD 100,000 award. The website designers in the Arab world await the contest every year as it contributes to developing the human and institutional resources in the field of informatics culture and community development at the national and Arab levels. Further, the award has a clear methodical approach through three main tracks which are the informatics prizes, the informatics development and the informatics knowledge. The contest is also characterized by a non-profit organization that seeks to highlight the civilizational and cultural facade of Kuwait through internet and it covers all sectors and categories because it allocates prizes for the best website that specializing in and supporting those of special needs, besides prizes for the best website on environment. Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Informatics award has recently signed agreements of cooperation with all bodies of the civil society on index on the experts in cooperation between the award body and the non-governmental organizations including the Historical Society of Kuwait, Kuwait Information Technology Society, Kuwait Chemical Society, Kuwait Association of Accountants and Auditors, Kuwait Teachers Society, Kuwait Society of Engineers and Kuwait Economic Society. The index aims to contribute to enriching the resources of knowledge in the Arab world as well as establishing an information infrastructure capable of assimilating the Arab experts, combining their exprtise and defining, classifying and displaying it. It also enables researchers to get an access to the informatics and digital experts and to pariticpate in the vairous scietific fields as well as helping the specialists to communicate with each others and facilitating the ways of accessing the specialized human resources. The Kuwait Information Technology Society (KITS) honored Sheikh Salem Al-Ali award earlier this year due to its contribution to making the second GCC internet week -- organized by the KITS internet associaton in Kuwait -- a success. The award's board of trustees decided as of 2007 to give an annual merit award titled "informatics medal", the highest appreciation devoted by the award for any public or juristic personality of distinctive contributions to the domain of informatics development. This medal was awarded in 2007 to the Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, and in 2008 to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, while it went in 2009 to the Arab Satellite Communication Organization (ARABSAT) in appreciation of what it introduced of changes that helped nurture the Arab citizens and their human civilization in various fields. - Kuna
