The inmates of the Shumaisy Deportation Centre in Riyadh called off the strike after the protest failed to draw any reaction from authorities at the centre, the newspaper said.
Protesters had hoped their stand would have brought their poor living conditions and ill health, with many suffering from chest infections, fever and chicken pox, the paper said.
They said it would have been “suicidal” for them to continue their hunger strike, the paper added.
Detainees began the strike after the death of Sheikh Muhammed Saqib, who suffered continual weight loss during his detention that left him resembling a “skeleton”, the Saudi Gazette reported on Tuesday.
Inmates blamed officials at the centre for Saqib’s death, the paper said.
