The Jordanian French Uranium Mining Company (JFUMC) announced Monday that, some 12,300 tons of potential Uranium resources
have already been identified over a 18 kilometers area in central Jordan Since 2009. In a press release, the company said that it has performed intensive exploration activities in the Central Jordan and they are currently progressing on secondary adjacent areas, where the ongoing drilling program will be achieved by the end of 2011. According to preliminary results on this second exploration phase, JFUMC is confident that the overall Uranium potential on the license should exceed 20, 000 tons. These potential resources shall be considered as strategic for Jordan since they should enhance its future nuclear fuel supply security. After this exploration phase, technical and economical studies will be conducted in 2012 to assess the feasibility of a uranium extraction program within the license, taking into account the current and future Uranium market outlook. Jordan, which imports around 96 percent of its energy sources, is eager to develop its local power resources to lessen the burden on the state's budget.
