KUWAIT, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- Shopping online is by now the best choice to buy clothes and other personal items for those who haven't got enough time and effort to shop around in the state's many malls.
A large and increasing number of Kuwaiti designers now use the internet to display their goods, a trend that is picking up after international catalog shopping, which was popular among Kuwaitis for decades. Kuwaiti products offered online meet the local market's particular needs, and a particular area of interest is the clothing industry with special hard-to-get sizes and high quality fabrics, and matching handbags, shoes, accessories, as well as more sizable goods like cars and spare parts and even real estate. Some sites offer advertising service for free, whether for retail or wholesale marketing, and the many popular sites nowadays include "Dkani", "Souq Alkuwait", "Souq Plus" and many others. In remarks to KUNA, owner of one such portal, Ahmad Abulraheem, said he offers personal website and advertising service for local sellers and provides the public with access to their goods free of charge. He said that this way of doing business saves time, money, and effort for the buyer, and also for the seller who might otherwise spend more than 500 KD just to rent a shop and hire some employees. One online shopper and a working mother, Shaima' Ismael, told KUNA that she buys most of her needs online, especially fashion goods by Kuwaiti designers who cater to the Arab and Islamic traditions in their creative designs. She added that her experience had shown that the products are reasonably priced, available even during special seasons, and thus are easier to get than goods offered and sought in the conventional way. - Kuna
