KUWAIT, Feb 6 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Livestock Transport and Trading Company said here Saturday it was considering a possible import of livestock from Uruguay and South Africa.
A technical team of the company, involving Australian advisors, is set to fly to Uruguay and then South Africa next week for the purpose, Ahmad al-Majid of the company told KUNA. The move mainly aims to meet the meat needs of the Kuwaiti local market, he said, adding that his company is keen on maintaining food security in Kuwait. "It is a major responsibility for the company to make available this strategic commodity," he said. The company will resort to Uruguay and South Africa as most other world countries are locked in livestock shortage mainly due to natural disasters, drought, low supply and high demand for livestock, al-Majid pointed out. - Kuna
