KUWAIT, May 17 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Wataniya Airways has elected a new board of directors for a three-year term
, and approved a recommendation that no profits would be reimbursed for the fiscal year that elapsed on December 31, 2009. This took place during an ordinary general assembly meeting of the airlines, which was attended by 34.6 percent of the carrier's shareholders. Addressing the meeting, Wataniya Airways Board Chairman and Managing Director Abdelsalam Al-Baher said his company had officially joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The move will give the airline several advantages, including more opportunities for cooperation with world airlines, and a stronger transport network for the company, he said. In 2009, a total of 270,000 passengers used Wataniya Airways planes, he said, adding that his company had received two more planes in the first half of this year and would take delivery of a third aircraft in October, thus bringing its fleet up to seven planes by the end of this year. The carrier has also recently raised its destinations to 12 by sending flights to Istanbul, Alexandria, Vienna and Rome, he noted. - Kuna
