KUWAIT: A lawmaker recently blamed the Ministry of Commerce(MoC) for aggravating the country's price rise issue by failing to counter it. He further accused the Cabinet of making inappropriate plans to resolve the matter , asking them to provide a clear statement about their procedures.

In a statement made to the Press, MP Ghanim Al-Maei said that the government used short- term policies to address the issue. He accused the Commerce Ministry of being inept at resolving the abrupt price rise issue. Furthermore, the MP asserted on the importance of formulating effective plans to fight monopoly, oblige suppliers as well as merchants into committing to set prices without manipulation.

This is in addition to enforcing stricter supervision measures to local markets while studying worldwide price fluctuation. Also, Al-Maei demanded that stricter penalties be imposed against violators. This includes implementing fines and suspending commercial licenses, reported Al-Watan.

The government's negligence has led consumers to lose faith in the market's price stability," Al-Maei added. "The state should confront greedy business people who unjustly increase prices whenever salary increments are made. - Kuna
