KNPC considers bids for acid gas treatment project |

KUWAIT, June 13 (KUNA) -- Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) Board Chairman and Managing Director Farouq Al-Zanki said here Sunday his company is currently pondering over offers from companies to establish an acid gas treatment project.
Speaking to reporters during a company annual ceremony, Al-Zanki said the new acid gas project aims to set up a new plant and to modernize some existing units purposed to treat acid gas coming to the company from Kuwait Oil Company. "The integrated company, which is meant to separate sulfur from gas, will lead to boosting the KNPC's absorption capacity in the gas field," he said. Asked about a fourth oil refinery project, he said: "The project is still under consideration at the Supreme Petroleum Council. There are favorable indications about it." Asked if the oil sector is negatively affected by the current European financial crisis, he said: "The company's projects are so strategic and long-term that they cannot be affected by such crises." For his part, KNPC's Health, Safety and Environment Director Fahad Al-Dihani said the company has spent KD 100 million on projects bearing on health, safety and environmental improvement over the last five years. The company has used the help of a Chinese company in this respect, he added. By carrying out such projects, the KNPC is seeking to overhaul its environmental performance out of its keenness on ensuring safety and cleanness in the Kuwaiti society, he added. - Kuna
