KUWAIT, Sept 15 (KUNA) -- Boubyan sea-port, known as Mubarak Al-Kabeer port, will hopefully receive around 1.8 million containers annually by 2015 , said an official here Wednesday.
Undersecretary for the major projects department of the Ministry Public Works, Adel Al-Turki told KUNA that the first stage of the four-phase project began in 2007 and it involved the construction of a three-lane road that stretches for 30 kilometers, adding that the road would be accompanied by a railway that would also serve as an alternative logistic option.
The second stage of the project would be to evaluate the ecological system in Boubyan Island which would lead the way to phase three that would involved the alteration of marine and land environments to allow for instance large carriers to dock at the seaport, noted the official, adding that other facilities would be constructed at the port to meet the ultimate goals set for the project.
The final stage of the project would lead to the complete assembly of around 60 docks that would make such project a vast leap for Kuwait within its development plans, said Al-Turki. - Kuna
