Buying new clothes for Eid is an inseparable part of tradition. This is a must for children, and even adults have religiously followed the practice of buying new clothes for Eid.
However, thanks to rising prices, some people have abandoned this custom. I have to buy new clothes for my children as they are used to this. Only few days are remaining for Eid. I already bought new outfits for my three children, which cost me about KD 60. I noticed that the prices have increased when compared to last year. I also gave my wife KD 100 to buy clothes and accessories," said the 35-year- old Yaser. Some women have found money-saving ways to buy Eid clothes, "I buy my stuff a month or more before Eid to avoid buying them at higher prices, and to find nice items. This year, I found a better technique. I decided to get my clothes stitched at the tailor's. When I was in Lebanon, I saw an expensive dress that cost KD 80. I bought similar clothes for KD 10, and asked the tailor to stitch it according to the design I sketched. He charged me KD 20 for the work. In this way, I will have had two dresses for Ei d at affordable rates," a 38- year- old Ibtisam told Kuwait Times. I advise Kuwaiti women to buy cloth and get them stitched. The prices of readymade clothes are high, although the material is not expensive. I think that women can buy the material and choose the design from a magazine or fashion websites. In this way, I reduced my budget," she added. Choices are in plenty for Kuwaiti men who want to buy new clothes, "It is a basic requirement to buy a new Dishdasha for Eid. It costs between KD 30 to 40. The cloth price has remained the same, so has the tailor," said Salah, a 27-year old citizen. Some people choose to travel to reduce Eid expenses, "This year I have decided to travel with my family. We used to buy new and expensive clothes when there has been a gathering with family members. My daughters want to look elegant. So every year, I spend about KD 500 on Eid clothes for my kids; two girls and two boys," noted Maha, a 40 year-old mother. Sabah is a father of five, and this year he bought them clothes for about KD 200, "This year, it's more expensive. Some people buy their outfits ahead of Eid. My daughters refuse to wear them even if I buy it in advance. They say it's old. They may wear it before Eid, and say it's already been used. So, I am forced to buy it just before Eid," he pointed out. - Kuwait Times
