KUWAIT: Employment and promotion violations continue to take place at the Ministry of Education as favoritism remains the keyword for seeking a desired position.
The latest incident discovered revolves around a maintenance supervisor working at an educational directorate who was appointed to his position in 1997 despite lacking the required academic qualifications. Regulations stipulate that employees must obtain a degree in engineering before they can be appointed to this post. The maintenance supervisor, however, had been appointed to the position with a degree in literature only, reported Al-Qabas. The case was brought to the surface earlier this year during the tenure of former Minister Dr. Nouriya Al-Subaih. Communication started between the Ministries of Education and Higher Education, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) as well as the Kuwaiti Engineers Society in order to verify the educational qualification of the aforementioned supervisor. After it was confirmed that the supervisor only had qualifications from the Faculty of Arts the CSC indicated that he had filled the post illegally and was receiving allocations meant for a qualified engineer. Actions have yet to be made 12 years after he first took the position. - Kuwait Times
