Kuwait to host epee grand prix |

KUWAIT, Dec 28 (KUNA) -- World epee fencing Grand Prix scheduled to take place next month will be held in Kuwait, Kuwaiti Amateur Fencing Association said Monday.
About 120 fencers representing 32 countries will be competing to win the cup of Martyr Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on the sidelines of the annual championship which is scheduled to take place on Jan 15-17, the association's President Abdulraheem Al-Saeed told KUNA. Single competitions will be held in the first two days while doubles will be held in the last day of the event, he said, adding that the he expected a "thrilling" and "vigorous" championship as professional players will be participating. As for the number of Kuwaiti players participating, Al-Saeed said that according to the regulations of the International Fencing Federation, the host is to decide. He noted that such sporting events help boost fencing skills through competing with professional world fencers. Kuwaiti National team is training at the association's court at Da'ea area, member of the association's committee for national teams Nahid Al-Murdhi said. The names of the players participating would be announced after the local tournament which will be held in the next few days, he noted. The committee wrote to the clubs to include the names of the unlisted fencers especially juniors so they could benefit from the experience the championship presented. - Kuna
