KUWAIT, Dec 29 (KUNA) -- The Minister of Public Works made record achievements during 2009 namely signing the contract of Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital project, delivery of Jaber Sports Stadium
and signing some 16 contracts and deals as well as launching three information campaigns. Hameed Yousef Boushehri, the director of public relations at the ministry, said in a statement to KUNA on Tuesday that the ministry contributed, over the past three decades, in the national construction process, through construction of security, health, educational, social, religious and sports ventures. The ministry's tasks cover a wide range of works, such as maintenance and pavement of roads, building and maintenance of infrastructural facilities, such as the construction and repair of sewers and gutters. Year 2009 witnessed the signing of a deal for the construction of Jaber Hospital, in addition to accomplishment of six projects, namely Jaber Al-Ahamd Sports Stadium, the construction of a road stretching from Fahaheel road to Al-Taawon road, the Kuwaiti National Library and the centers of Al-Andalus suburb and Al-Regea. Moreover, the passing year saw the construction of the third phase of the sewage network, building and maintenance of transfer of treated water from DMC station to Al-Wafra farms. Boushehri added that the first media campaign, launched by the ministry during the passing year, was themed "Kuwait turns beautiful," aimed at promoting the most important projects of the ministry. The second campaign was related to public manners and sound usage of the ministry facilities and services. Last December, the ministry launched the third campaign that was intended to publicize the services emergency-number 150 -- to receive complaints and queries round the clock. Elaborating, the director of the public relations at the ministry said three seminars were held during the year, in preparation for the exhibition due in 2010. The lectures and debates dealt with traffic problems, public transportations, optimal usage of water and mechanisms for speeding up the execution of projects. Boushehri added that the ministry held its 15th gathering for honoring 71 ideal personnel and retirees for the year 2008. It also honored representatives of the media and the press, as well as the volunteer divers of Sinyars for their help at the damaged site of Mishref water treatment station. Shedding further light on the main ventures undertaken by the ministry, Boushehri mentioned the project of the first ring road, construction and maintenance of rain water gutters and sewers in addition to some works related to Al-Sabbiyah highway. Workers of the ministry are involved in construction of roads and networks of gutters and sewage pipelines in Al-Seddeeq suburb, identical works in Al-Massila and Sabah Al-Salem, Al-Mangaf, Abu Futairah, Al-Nassem, in addition to several water networks in other areas and at locations adjacent to main roads. As to the main construction projects, he referred to Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, the Kuwaiti Research and Studies Center, Al-Fatwa and legislation headquarters and the Kuwaiti Club for the Dump. Personnel are also involved in the execution of other projects such as the construction of the Amiri protocols hall (the Amiri Airport), the information center building, the building for members of the National Assembly, the expatriate workers towns in Sebhan and Al-Sheddadiah, the headquarters of the interior ministry and the headquarters of the general-directorate of the special armed forces. Work is underway for the construction and maintenance of the new police headquarters, the building for the assistant undersecretaries of the ministry of interior, the building for the Women Affairs Committee, permanent headquarters of the labor force restructuring program and the executive apparatus of the state. Others projects are the construction of the tower building, the fence of the central prison, the building for the public protection of the fire department, the multi-storey parking lots for health ministry hospitals and upper routes for linking the state hospitals. Boushehri, in his further elaboration regarding the ministry long list of ventures, mentioned the construction of several schools, the building of Al-Jahra governorate headquarters, the centers for Hitteen suburbs, Al-Ugailah, Ishbiliah, Sabah Al-Nasser, Al-Mangaf, Al-Shuhada and Mubarak Al-Abdullah. The ministry personnel and workers are also involved in construction of a health center in Al-Ugailah, the capital teaching headquarters, a headquarters for the management of mosques in Al-Jahra, rebuilding a mosque in Al-Ugailah, a building for litigations in Hawalli, the health club in Bayan and the conferences hall in Bayan. More ventures are building sewage systems in Al-Ugailah, water networks in Al-Wafra, water and sewage networks in Amghara and New Jahra, supplying the makeshift lake in Umm Al-Rasem with water, the army northern bases, renovation of sewage networks in Mishref, Sabah Al-Salem, Bayan, Al-Jabriya, Al-Reggae, Al-Jahra, Umm Al-Haiman, the water control center and irrigation network in Al-Abdali. As to mega projects, he mentioned the renovation project on Boubyan island including the re-construction of sewers, building a railway, soil treatment, linking up the island with the mainland with a causeway and a railway, in addition to expansion of harbors. Other main ventures are Khairan and Al-Nuwaiseeb highway. He indicated that ministry is also building schools, a police station, power facilities and a utility infrastructure in the Khairan resort region. - Kuna
