Kuwait calls for Arab strategy to combat terrorism |

KUWAIT, Jan 3 (KUNA) -- Security conditions on the regional and international arenas warrant mapping out a comprehensive Arab strategy to confront terrorism, a Kuwaiti official said.
Director of Security Media Department and official spokesman of the Ministry of Interior Colonel Mohammed Hashem Al-Sabr made the call, on Sunday, ahead of his departure to the United Arab Emirates to take part in a seminar on the Arab role for combating terrorism, in line with instructions by the Interior Minister (retired) Lieutenant General Sheikh Jaber Khaled Al-Sabah. The minister has always affirmed necessity of using scientific study and research for getting into the bottom of various social and security phenomena, he said, adding that the national representation at the seminar, due on January 4-6, was also in implementation of directions by the Undersecretary Lieut. Gen. Ahamad Abdul-Latif Al-Rujaib, who advocates promotion of security information activities to stay abreast of scientific innovations. Col. Al-Saber called for devising a new mechanism to study terrorism, causes of its expansion and defining forms of wars that should be launched on this phenomenon. Media planning can serve such an aspired strategy, he said, affirming that such a plan should conform with "Our values, traditions, cultural and economic conditions." Credible and in-depth media can be helpful for promoting morale of societies and nudging the terrorists to change "their patterns of thinking and behaviors," he added. - Kuna
