KUWAIT: His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is to patronize the Concours d' Elegance, international classic and vintage cars festival from Jan 20 to 23.
The museum of the classical cars coordinated the event along with the Monte Alto and Elit and the prestigious event is to be held at the Marina Mall. Head of the festival's organizing committee Abdulaziz Saud Ishaac, said the Concours d'Elegance is to be held for the first time in Kuwait where the luxury cars are inspected by international qualified judges and the trophy winners are carefully chosen. Many activities will be incorporated within the event, he said. The Concours is a French word meaning competition which dates back as early as the 17th century when aristocrats used to parade around parks of Paris riding their best horse carriages and the tradition continued till modern days. The Kuwait Concours d'Elegance is to highlight the great passion for automobiles that the country has had ever since the 1910's decade when the first car, a Belgium-made Minerva, arrived on its shores, Ishaac said. In fact, the year 2010 marks the 100th anniversary since the first car entered Kuwait thanks to Sheik Mubarak bin Sabah Al Sabah (1896-1915). The organizing committee groups Dr Tareq Al-Rayes, Ahmad Al-Enezi and Sana Al-Ghanem. - Kuwait Times
