Education ministry, Microsoft sign "Partners in Learning" agreement |

KUWAIT, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Education on Monday signed the Partners in Learning agreement with Microsoft as a step to transform Kuwaiti schools into knowledge-based ones.
Commenting on the agreement, Tamadhur Al-Sideirawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Resources and services, told reporters that the agreement with Microsoft comes in line with improving standards of education by using the best tools available to develop education and training. The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Education Dr. Moudhi Al-Humoud and Charbel Fakhoury, General Manager of Microsoft Gulf. Valuing its role in providing both government and private schools with latest technologies in education, Minister Al-Humoud said that the agreement with Microsoft will push the learning process in Kuwait forward. Meanwhile, Chairman of Local Representative Office Wael Al-Saqer said that Microsoft is largely investing in services provided by the government sector, as it will also sign a similar agreement with the health ministry. Microsoft Partners in Learning is designed to actively increase access to technology and improve its use in learning. Areas of the program include providing schools, governments and partners with resources, training, expertise and technology blueprints to create innovative schools of the 21st century. It also include innovative teachers; as in providing teachers with tools, forums and resources that build communities of practice, support collaboration and access to quality content, and challenge educators to integrate ICT into teaching and learning in a meaningful manner. Lastly, innovative students, as such area will empower students to use ICT in their schoolwork and learning and email accounts for each student. - Kuna
