KUWAIT, Jan 18 (KUNA) --The 11th Hala February Festival is scheduled to be launched on January 29, General Coordinator, Walid Al-Jassem, said on Monday underlining that the annual event is a boost for the country's economy.
Addressing a press conference here last night, Al-Jassem said, that the festival which coincided with the anniversary of H.H. the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah taking office, was keen on highlighting Kuwait's landmarks and would contribute to revival of the state economy. Activities of the one-month-long event is due to start with a two-day carnival at the Souq Sharq parking lot, he said, noting that the carnival includes art, Islamic, photography galleries, in addition to a special marathon for children. Shops at commercial complexes and malls all over the state would take part in the event with high promotions and sale offers, said the official, adding that a variety of activities such as concerts, poetry evenings and children shows would be hosted as well. On the other hand, Al-Jassem stressed the importance of the private sector's role in boosting the state's economy. Meanwhile, Chairman of the event's Marketing Committee, Mohammed Al-Da'as said that the 2009 festival's purchasing power doubled five times compared with the previous year. The festival which was first launched in 1999 will continue in transforming Kuwait into a financial and commercial center, he noted. - Kuna
