KNPC conducts studies to overcome damage in refineries equipment -- Al-Zanki |

KUWAIT, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- Chairman and Managing Director of Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) Farouk al-Zanki said here on Tuesday that KNPC has conducted, in cooperation with the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR)
studies on causes of the damage that occured in the equipment of refineries and ways to overcome them. This came in a speech at the opening of the 11th joint Kuwaiti-Japanese Symposium dubbed (corrosion and the behavior of materials in the oil refining industry) organized by KISR, KNPC, Japan Cooperation Center for Petroleum and Petroleum Institute of Japan. Al-Zanki said that the studies also include the safety of quality and accreditation of the equipment, in addition to determining the effect of the change in the Kuwait Oil in terms of increasing pH and its impact on erosion of materials. He added that KNPC and KPC strongly believe that the oil industry has an developmental role and in need to develop solutions to the technological challenges, thus, the company is following a systematic methodology to identify these challenges and develop plans for research through collaboration with KISR. He said that several specialized teams consisting of engineers in the company and researchers from the Institute with wide experience have been formed to develop a specific plan to meet needs of the Kuwaiti refining industry over the next five years. He stated that the plan consisted of various topics such as raising the efficiency of improving the waste oil by reducing the proportion of the resulting damage, addressing emissions and waste oil, conserving energy and develop renewable energy applications and other matters.- Kuna
