KUWAIT, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) completed a survey conducted under the supervision of the Gulf Cooperation Council's General Secretariat on bottom fish
that existed at the Oman and the Arabian Gulf, KISR said Tuesday. The ship conducting the two-month-and-a-half survey arrived at Shuweikh Port after covering 114 sites, researcher at the KISR's water resources department Dr. Muhsin Al-Huseini told KUNA. The project first surveyed Kuwaiti waters followed by that of Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Oman, and Finally Saudi Arabia, he noted. It documented water temperatures and salinity at sites surveyed and categorized fish captured he said, adding that the information collected was fed into databases to undergo analysis. The trip grouped four KISR researchers who stayed for the whole project and participants from the other Gulf countries who rotated in service on board so that each team served in its country's territorial waters, he said, and noted that the third survey was scheduled to take place in March. Al-Huseini hailed collective efforts by officials in the Gulf region, researchers, and the crew who ensured the success of the survey. He also thanked the bodies that sponsored the project; the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD), Islamic Development Bank (IDB), Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), Qatar Petroleum, Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC), and KISR. - Kuna
