KUWAIT, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- A deceased baby whale came ashore on Friday on the sandy beach adjacent to the Scientific Center complex in the district of Al-Salmiyah.
Death of the small whale was not known. Onlookers speculated that the animal might have gone adrift before being pushed ashore by the waves.
This KUNA staffer contacted the Public Environment Authority (EPA) and informed them about the presence of the small whale on the sandy beach in Al-Salmiah. Officials promised to send a team and inspect the deceased animal.
Beaching of a demised whale is rare occurrence in Kuwait. However, the country had witnessed on several occasions mammoth shark whales drifting and getting stranded in bays and harbors.
The nearby scientific center hosts a variety of species.
Globally, some 2,000 marine animals, mainly whales, beach themselves annually. Some reach the beaches alive but they die due to dehydration. Activists in some countries hurriedly aid the beaching large fish and help them sail into sea.
Reasons of whales' beaching are theoretically diverse, including the wide-spread belief that the phenomenon is related to high pollution. - Kuna
