Kuwait expresses support for vintage cars exhibition

KUWAIT: Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah said on Thursday that the 'First Kuwait Concours d'Elegance' is the first major step towards supporting automobile exhibition activities in Kuwait, describing the move as a cultural event the country is keen to transmit.
Sheikh Ahmad, also Minister of State for Development Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs made the comment on the fringes of day one of the renowned car exhibition Wednesday evening, held under the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The exhibition is showcasing antique and classic cars dating back to the early 20th century at the seafront of one of Kuwait's fanciest malls; Marina Mall.
The official expressed his country's keenness in hosting exhibitions, museums and activities of this kind, hoping the event would be annual in Kuwait.
For his part, chief organizer Abdulaziz Saud Ishaq said that the event attended by many senior Kuwaiti officials, businessmen and local icons, who have pledged their assets on display, is held for the first time in the country.

The oldest car on show, Ishaq noted, is the Renault Torpedo DM 1914 model, which coincides with the same year the Belgian luxury automobile, Minerva was introduced to Kuwait during the reign of former Amir Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah. He also said the event was an opportunity to showcase the wealth of classic automobiles like the Rolls Royces, Fords and other luxury cars which offer excellence and perfection in design and concept. Ishaq also described the exhibition as cultural before being commercial, and that Kuwait at the moment was under the spotlight of Concours' enthusiasts worldwide. - KUNA
