KUWAIT CITY, Jan 22: The Chairperson of the Kuwait Union of Domestic Workers’ Office Owners Fadhel Ashkanani appealed to concerned authorities in Indonesia to lift the ban on the recruitment of domestic workers to Kuwait
, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. Ashkanani wondered why the Indonesian government continues to place a ban on the recruitment of workers to Kuwait despite efforts by the government to break barriers confronting the workers. He said the government has been resolving issues concerning the Indonesian workers, especially those piling up at the Indonesian Embassy. He claimed that the government has been providing facilities to solve the problems of workers, while they cooperate with the embassy to ensure the safe return of those who are determined to go back home.
Ashkanani criticized the justification for the continued ban due to the intention of the Indonesian government to include a clause to the subsisting agreement in that regard. “The sudden ban on recruitment has adverse implications on both parties, and we can continue working based on the current agreement until we fashion a new one”, he suggested. Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Jamal Al-Dousari has announced the amendments made on the Cooperative Societies Labor Law, reports Al-Anba daily.
Al-Dousari disclosed the amendments stipulate that the board of directors of cooperative societies should consist of five members, who will serve for three years. He said the right of voting must be for only one candidate. Other amendments include the board of directors of the Cooperative Societies Union (CSU), which should have nine members with three-year tenure each, while the right of voting should be for two candidates.
In the meantime, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) has released a list of 715 Kuwaiti men and women, appointed to work at various governmental authorities, reports Freedom Journal. In a press statement, the Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Faisal Al-Ghareeb said the CSC continues to receive requests by the authorities to provide more candidates to fill up vacancies across different sectors. He asked that all selected candidates report to the authority at which they have secured employment on Monday, Jan 25, along with 4 photographs, and the original and photocopies of their Civil IDs, educational degrees, and certificates of birth and nationality. On the other hand, the Director of Citizen Service and Public Relations Rateb Al-Uraifan said the CSC is committed to addressing the needs of those with special needs who have been appointed to work in the public sector. - Arab Times
