KUWAIT, Jan 23 (KUNA) -- A team of Kuwaiti divers has successfully carried out a pioneering experiment for cultivating coral reefs in the Maldives through scientific and simple methods.
On this experiment, Mahmoud Ashknani, who is in charge of environmental projects at the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, told KUNA that the team had completed a specialized training course for the cultivation of coral reefs to repair damage caused by storms and negative human impacts on marine environment. The experiment was based on fixing saplings of coral reefs on spider-like bodies that were modified by natural substances that match marine environment and spur growth of coral reefs, he said. The Kuwaiti diving team has documented the pioneering experiment as a prelude to forecasting it in Arabic and English at the team's website. Since 1986, Kuwaiti divers have been seeking to carry out earnest environmental projects to save and rehabilitate coral reefs in Kuwait. - Kuna
