KUWAIT CITY, Jan 26: The Minister of Commerce and Industry Ahmad Rashed Al-Haroun has denied there is a need to expand or increase the volume of subsidized commodities
in ration cards at the moment, noting that the Ministry has been collaborating with provision companies and flour mills to review the included commodities regularly, reports Al-Rai daily. In a press statement, Al-Haroun said the review normally leads to an increase or exclusion of commodities depending on the findings. He assured that the Trade Monitoring Sector will be stricter with the unfair price hike. He reiterated that items included on the ration card are enough to take care of basic needs of families for now, and added that the commodities are prone to review and amendment in order to achieve the desired objectives and maintain prices to an appreciable level. “The Ministry is consistently monitoring prices in the markets, companies and cooperative societies, especially after we discovered violations in certain cooperative societies”, he said.
