It now appears that Qatar Airways is offering business class passengers a chance to upgrade to first class for free on some of its services to the Middle East.
This offer, which is the latest attempt by the carrier to boost its market shares, is valid on services from Heathrow to Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Dubai, Kuwait and Muscat via its hub in Doha.
This is Qatar Airways’ way of hoping to entice new businesses with luxury. However, rival airlines remained unaffected by the deal. Emirates, which flies direct to Heathrow, said that it would not respond with a similar offer. The airline did say that Emirates has online and special fares on a regular basis. He said, for an example, there is currently a business class companion fare on offer from £1500.
A spokesman from Oman Air, which flies direct to Muscat, said that Oman Air is already providing some of the cheapest fares on the market. The airlines also flies the only direct service from LHR to Muscat.
The Qatar Airways deal is only available to A class passengers with the upgrade booked at the same time as paying for the flight. The bookings must be made on or before March 31st for travel on or before March 31.
The seats are, of course, limited and subject to availability. Flight restrictions and blackout periods apply for travel. The tickets and upgrades are bookable online at Qatar Airways’ website or through a travel management company. Other terms and conditions could apply, and travelers should visit the Qatar Airways’ website for all of the latest information. - Source
