KUWAIT, Jan 27 (KUNA) -- The documentary film entitled " A greeting from the depth of the seas to my forefathers" that will be shot in Kuwait
next July will be a nexus between ancient sea diving and its current practice as a sport, Belgian documentary director Peter de Molder said here Wednesday. Molder said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the history of sea diving in Kuwait started before the ancient Sumerian civilization, namely before about five thousand years, when archaeologists found the oldest pearl in Kuwait and it is believed that it harks back to that era. He went on to say that," The oldest tale written throughout earth's history is the epic of the Gilgimash king who sailed from a given spot, known as Kuwait now,to Bahrain to look for the flower of eternity which is a pearl. Molder also said that,"This epic is the oldest tale that registered some techniques used by predecessors in the gulf area to get pearls from the depths of the sea as well as the others used by ancient Greeks to get sponge." He referred to the tools used by ancient peoples of the Gulf region and the Greece some four thousand years ago such as heavy weights, olive oil and cotton to protect ears from pressures pointing out that "Some of the questions to be posed by the movie is on the transfer of knowledge from the Gulf region and vice versa." Molder also pointed out that diver Patrick Mossimo exceeded the deepest point reached by man in this field by holding his breath in a 200-metre depth in June 2005 in Egypt. He also referred to the deep-rooted songs and lines of poetry sung at old voyages for getting pearls in the Gulf region, saying that his movie is going to document such rites in Kuwait in particular.- Kuna
