KUWAIT, Jan 27 (KUNA) -- Deputy Speaker of Kuwait National Assembly Abdullah Al-Roumi said Wednesday there are some inconsistencies in the draft private sector labour law
sent to the government. Al-Roumi, who is tasked to dovetail the draft legislation sent to the government with the text passed by the parliament, said the inconsistencies are spotted in articles 18 and 68. "The draft will be sent again to the government after correcting the mistakes," the leading MP said. Al-Roumi attributed to the mistakes to "the numerous amendments" to the articles of the bill, rather than to negligence. "The Assembly decided to task me with verifying the bill soon after it was notified that Article 18 on the commitments of vocational trainees was inconsistent with the corresponding article in the draft passed by the parliament," Al-Roumi noted. The Assembly held a session on the legislation on December 23, 2009, when the MPs approved the draft amendments to Article 68. They also approved, during the first reading of the bill, the provisions on vacations stipulating that the Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha vacations are three days each. However, the document sent to the government provides that the vacations are two days each, he noted. During the second reading, held on November 18, the assembly scrapped a phrase at the end of Article 18 which reads "excluding the vocational courses exceeding three days," but the phrase showed up in the text sent to the government. "Apart from the above inconsistencies, the draft being mulled by the government is generally sound and its provisions and phraseology are in line with those approved by the Assembly," Al-Roumi affirmed.
