GENEVA, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Councilor at the Mission in Geneva Sadiq Marafi told the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group meeting on the implementation of human rights in Italy that Kuwait praises Italy for its upholding of religious freedoms and its respect for religious symbols.
Following the submission of Italy's report Marafi praised the report of Italy which reflects the prestigious history of the country in the field of promoting and safeguarding human rights and shows the steps taken by the Italian parliament in this context.
He referred to the efforts of the government to establish a national independent human rights institution alongside many other institutions among them the consultative body on freedoms of religion.
Marafi recommended that Italy continue this path through establishing an independent national human rights committee along the lines of the Paris principles.
The Paris principles are connected with principles relating to the Status of National Institutions and were adopted by the UN General Assembly resolution 48/134 in Dec 23,1993. - Kuna
