Defense Ministry eulogizes pioneer Kuwaiti pilot

KUWAIT: Kuwait Defense Ministry and Kuwait Army Headquarters yesterday announced the death of the first Kuwaiti pilot, the late Lt General (Ret) Marzouq Mubarak Al-Ajeel , who got his pilot license in 1954, and was first in class. The Defense Ministry said in a statement that the late Al-Ajeel is considered one of the pioneers who joined Kuwait's army until the establishment of the aviation club school that was the seed from which the Air Force emerged at the wish of late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah
.

The statement said the club used to accept those wishing to fly Kuwaitis and others; then when a group of young men finished training on the Auster aircraft they obtain a private pilot license. The statement added that the first batch of pilots including Marzouq Al-Ajeel were sent to England to obtain a commercial pilot license in 1954, then in 1961 a batch of pilots were sent for military training.

It said that following Kuwait's declaration of independence, the club was changed into military aviation center, to officially become Kuwait Air Force.
Al-Ajeel was promoted to the rank of captain, then was appointed commander of the air force. He retired with the rank of major general. - Kuwait Times
